My initial reactions to using Skype on the iPhone:
- The sound quality is about the same as using the AT&T 3G network. Not as clear as Skype is on the desktop. Better than using Skype through Fring. I was hoping for desktop sound quality, but oh well.
- Not being able to run programs in the background, Skype will only work when the program is activated. Therefore it can’t work as an alternate phone line.
- Chat is saved on the Skype server. If you lookup your chat history on your desktop Skype, the chat through the iPhone will be there as well.
- There’s no shortcuts for smileys on iPhone Skype. You’ll just have to remember the shortcuts to use your favorite emoticons.
- There’s no sound effect to notify you of new chat messages. You’ll just have to look at the screen to see the chat count. This isn’t so bad since you have to keep Skype open anyways to chat, but kind of annoying this behavior forces you to check your screen every few seconds if you’re engaged in a chat with a buddy.
Oh well, not bad for version 1. Hopefully with iPhone 3.0 and updates, Skype on iPhone will become even better soon!

I think there are few things to make the skype app perfect, so can The Skype developers put them on the next release please?
1. The new chat alert sound like on desktop
2. A background process to keep up the login to receive chat messages or calls.
I think to implement number one is very reasonable and number 2 could be a good thought.

You can always try just deleting the app and then reinstalling. I know Skype logs all chat on their servers so you may need not be able to fully delete all chat messages.

whenever I start skype in my iPhone the phone hang and I have to turn off and start it again ,can you please tell me the reason behind that and how can I resolve this problem

Bloody stupid iphone chat. I am really really annoyed that there is not delete chat on iphone and that all my chats are saved on servers….i think i will delete skype and find another software that is held in a country that promotes privacy

You cannot delete messages from Skype. If you want to keep your conversations private then I suggest you down load the fring app which works exactly like Skype but with the added feature of being able to delete the conversations.

To delete one item of Skype chat history on your iPhone, you can swipe on it with one finger from left to right, then you get the delete button, clicking on it will delete the selected item of chat history. Hope that helps

I’m having the same infuriating problem with inability to delete Skype chat history! Surely someone knows a way .. Without having to uninstall App.
